What does a dragon boat have to do with the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver 2010?We asked ourselves the same question when we got to know that our BuK dragon boat was being used as official torch bearer boat of the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.
But thinking about why the organizers and the IOC decided for this sort of torch transport, some reasons come to mind. Hardly any sport brings so many people to look in one common direction. Although competing during tournaments, everyone bears in mind the same goal. Besides winning it is companionship and friendship within the team and a practiced international understanding across all continents. One can read a lot into this picture. Olympic Games, whether in summer or winter, are borne by this thought of international understanding. That the decision fell on the dragon boat for a section of the Olympic torch relay honors the dragon boat sport and attaches a special value to it. Who knows what kind of developments are in store for the dragon boat sport? There already are plenty of people who can picture the dragon boat sport as an Olympic Sport. The torch bearing dragon boat can be a symbol for this. We as manufacturers take pride in the fact that it was our BuK dragon boat carrying this great gesture into the world. We feel that we and our activities have been particularly honored. |
